Celebrate the 20th annual Williams Club Opera Night with Williams Professor of Music W. Anthony Sheppard and the Met Opera’s presentation of Verdi’s La Traviata. Enjoy dinner at the Club while Professor Sheppard plays excerpts from the opera, and provides an overview of the plot and musical highlights. After dessert, you will be whisked away to Lincoln Center where your seats in the Metropolitan Opera’s Dress Circle await you. Price includes 3-course dinner, lecture, opera ticket, and transportation to the Metropolitan Opera House.

La Traviata premiered in Venice on March 6, 1853. Though the audience jeered at its premiere, and the Church decried its questionable morals, it has since gone on to become an immensely popular, widely performed, and truly cherished masterpiece. The Met Opera’s production features Sonya Yoncheva as one of opera’s most beloved heroines, the tragic courtesan Violetta, a role in which she triumphed on the Met stage in 2015, opposite Michael Fabiano as her lover, Alfredo, and Thomas Hampson as his father, Germont.
