While researching the toxic impact of sugar on our health for his New York Times best seller Fat Chance, Dr. Robert Lustig made a discovery that reaches beyond the politics of food. Our seemingly innocent addictionsfrom fast food to social media to shopping therapy to FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)are far from it.  They are biochemical, damaging our bodies and our brains. Lustig reveals not just how these chemicals interact with one another to drive our behaviors, but how Big Business and government have used the science of addiction to keep us hooked.

Dr. Robert H. Lustig is Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, and Member of the Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Lustig graduated from MIT in 1976, and received his M.D. from Cornell University Medical College in 1980. In 2013, he completed a Masters of Studies in Law  degree at University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Dr. Lustig is also the president of non-profit, EatREAL, dedicated to reversing childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes by altering the global food supply, and the Chief Medical Officer of Human Lumen Technologies, a company devoted to bioengineering solutions to mitigate chronic disease.
