Williams at the Movies: On the Waterfront

This summer film series celebrates notable contributions by Williams College alumni to the feature film industry. We hope to have some surprise guests along the way, and urge you to consider making an entire evening of it by enjoying a special prix fixe dinner available @ $35.00 pp++ (choose two courses) before and after the movie in the Bar & Grill.
During the movie, enjoy complimentary popcorn. A concession stand will also be available for sales of beer, wine and soda, mixed nuts, cheese plates, crudités, sliders and warm pretzels starting at 5:30.
The series will be introduced by Professor Jerry Carlson ’72, a film historian and Chair of the Department of Media & Communication Arts at The City College of The City University of New York.
June 14 – On the Waterfront
Directed by Elia Kazan ’30, starring Marlon Brando, Karl Malden, Lee J Cobb, Rod Steiger, Eva Marie Saint (her film debut). This film focuses on union violence and corruption amongst longshoremen, while detailing extortion and racketeering on the waterfronts of Hoboken, New Jersey. A critical & commercial success, “On the Waterfront” received 12 Academy Award nominations and won eight, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Brando), Best Supporting Actress (Saint), and Best Director. Leonard Bernstein’s soundtrack is his only original film score not adapted from a stage production.
