The Princeton Club of New York invites you to learn about what it is like to run a successful venture backed startup from a panel of some of the best alumni entrepreneurs (all of whom received funding from Fitz Gate Ventures, a venture capital fund managed by Jim Cohen ’86 and Mark Poag ‘93 that invests in startups that have a Princeton founder). Panelists include:
Robert Schoelkopf ’86, Co-Founder and CEO of Fitz Gate portfolio company Quantum Circuits, Inc. QCI is developing the first quantum computer (the chip, the software and the programming interface). The goal is to be the Intel, IBM and Microsoft of a second wave of the information age. Quantum computers will be millions of times faster than silicon chip based computers of today. Founder Robert Schoelkopf has been running the Yale Quantum Institute and teaching at Yale for two decades and has won many of the field’s top awards. Fitz Gate led QCI’s first fundraising round and then brought in Sequoia, Canaan and Tribeca for an $18mm Series A round 7 months later.
Liz Maida ’98, Co-Founder and CEO of Fitz Gate portfolio company UpLevel Security, Inc. Uplevel Security offers an adaptive system of intelligence that uses graph theory and machine learning to modernize security operations. Founder and CEO Liz Maida’s core expertise in graph data structure and analytics combined with her experience in security and management is a background few possess. Fitz Gate invested in the round alongside First Round Capital, Work-Bench and Aspect Ventures.
Michael Carvin ’06, Co-Founder and CEO of Fitz Gate portfolio company Smartasset, Inc. Smartasset is the web’s most viewed fintech company helping people make smarter financial decisions with a patent pending automated financial modeling technology. Powered by proprietary Automated Financial Modeling software, SmartAsset’s tools, calculators, data-driven studies and educational content provide the web’s best personal finance resources, directly to consumers. Founder Michael Carvin has built one of the fastest growing fin tech companies in the US. Fitz Gate invested in the round alongside Javelin Ventures, NY Life, Transamerica, and IA Capital
Indre Rockefeller ’04, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Paravel, Inc. Paravel is a digitally native luggage and travel goods brand for the experience economy generation, a social-media oriented, Millennial demographic, which collectively spends $200bn+ annually on travel. At Paravel they are design-obsessed travel junkies on a quest to create the perfect bag for every adventure, no matter the size. Co-founded by luxury fashion expert Indre Rockefeller and former Goldman Sachs executive Andy Krantz, Paravel has been featured in the New York Times, Vogue, Conde Nast Traveler and the Wall Street Journal. Fitz Gate co-led the round with 8VC.
James Citron ’00, CEO of Pledgeling, Inc. Pledgeling is the world’s first charitable giving and social impact platform that helps build stronger relationships between organizations and people by providing tools and expertise to easily collect charitable donations and demonstrate the positive effect of its customers’ giving program. As consumer brands compete for younger customers, many have proven that differentiation based on social awareness and aligning with charitable causes is good for their business. Pledgeling makes this differentiation happen and counts among its customers Evite, Discovery Channel, American Red Cross and Tinder. CEO James Citron is an experienced, prior successful founder. Fitz Gate invested in the round alongside Double M Partners, Collaboration Capital and the founder of MySpace.
