Rick Geffken’s new book, Lost Amusement Parks of the North Jersey Shore, brings together rarely seen images from the Library of Congress, local historical societies, and private collections to document how the Jersey Shore became the most famous vacation and recreational destination in the coastal United States. In this presentation, Geffken will show a collection of the remarkable photos and will explore the simpler way of life on the boardwalk documenting the vendors that sold candy apples, salt water taffy, hot dogs and hamburgers, popcorn, and, of course, the history of the rides.

Rick Geffken is co-author of The Story of Shrewsbury Revisited, 1965-2015. His recent book, Lost Amusement Parks of the North Jersey Shore, was co-written by George Severini. Geffken has been a featured speaker at the Trent House Museum, the Quaker Meeting of Shrewsbury, the Battleground Historical Society, and other organizations. Geffken holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from St. Peter’s University and a Master’s Degree from Montclair State University.
