Title: Dr. Charles Riley on Beauty
Description: Dr. Charles Riley: A Two-Part Series on Beauty
Tuesday, February 26
Wine Reception: 6:00pm
Cost: Free for members; $10 for guests
Color versus line: Where does beauty lie? We start with an exploration on “Color Codes.” Join cultural historian Dr. Charles A. Riley II for a multimedia exploration of color and its meanings. In addition to paintings, Dr. Riley will also use architecture, music, literature, and psychology, illustrated with such rhapsodists of chromaticism as Van Gogh, Matisse, Kandinsky, Stella, Wagner, and Debussy, to enlighten you and challenge traditional thought. Dr. Riley, a recurrent favorite at the PCNY, is an arts journalist, curator, and professor. He is also the author of twenty-eight books on art, architecture, and public policy; curator-at-large at the Nassau County Museum of Art; and a graduate of Princeton University and The Graduate Center of City University of New York.
The first in a two-part series, Dr. Riley will explore “Line” on Monday, March 18.
